The Greater Palm Springs area enjoys a reputation as one of the top golf destinations in America due in part to having over 130 renowned golf courses and enjoying over 300 days of sunshine.  The area has been a stop on both the men’s and women’s professional golf circuit for many years and is presently home to the PGA’s American Express Tournament and the LPGA’s ANA Inspiration Tournament.

Such legendary designers as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye, Greg Norman, Nick Faldo, Tom Weiskopf, Gary Player, Ted Robinson, and others created many courses in the area.  Incredible mountain backdrops surround many courses that are meticulously manicured and maintained.

Golfers of all ages and abilities will find a wide selection of stunning courses to fit their needs and budgets.  Among the most well-known and poplar golf venues are PGA West, home to nine courses located in La Quinta; Desert Willow Golf Resort located in Palm Desert and featuring two courses; Escena Golf Club located in Palm Springs; and Indian Canyons Golf Resort also in Palm Springs and featuring two courses.

Among the most popular and beautiful courses is theIndian Wells Golf Resort, home to two spectacular courses and ranked in the top 25 “Best Municipal Courses in the United States” by Golfweek Magazine.  Located in Indian Wells, this facility is within walking distance of the Renaissance Esmeralda, Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa, and the Miramonte Indian Wells Resort & Spa. The facility also features fine dining and large pavilion overlooking the golf course for private events and weddings.

The popular J.W. Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa, located in palm Desert, features two championship courses that welcome players of all levels.  The Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage features three distinct nine-hole courses.

The newest course in the Greater Palm Springs area is the Shadow Mountain Golf Club, a semi-private course opened in 1958 and designed by Gene Sarazan.  The course fell into disrepair but was totally renovated and re-opened under new ownership in October 2021.  Located just a few blocks from the fashionable El Paseo shopping district in Palm Desert, this lovely 5,400-yard par 70 course is one of the few in the desert than is walkable. Shadow Mountain also features facilities for smaller parties and wonderful food.
