In the midst of the Covid pandemic, dining out has been dramatically impacted throughout the country and especially in Palm Springs where going out to breakfast, lunch, and dinner is one of the most popular pastimes for residents and visitors alike.  Throughout the spring and summer of 2020 restaurants in Palm Springs have endured either total shutdowns or drastic reductions in the number of indoor seats allowed for their diners.

With the triple digit heat subsiding now and several months of mild weather ahead, restaurants throughout the area are turning to outdoor dining areas to help entice people back for meals and drinks.  The Palm Springs City Council unanimously passed an “al fresco” dining plan whereby restaurants can temporarily seat people on public sidewalks and on a portion of Palm Canyon Drive between Baristo Road and an Tahquitz Canyon Way where the road will be closed to all traffic for the foreseeable future and blocked off by construction barricades.

The manner in which restaurants are expanding seating areas onto sidewalks and on to the main drag through downtown Palm Springs is as varied as their menus.  Attached are images from several restaurants along Palm Canyon Drive.
